Fresh Roots Gardening officially started in 2009, three years after I finished a horticulture program at Rockingham Community College and two years after I worked as a head gardener at the O.Henry Hotel in Greensboro, North Carolina. During this time I was also gaining field experience working on residential properties.
I have always loved being outside. Growing up on an island in the Florida Keys I gained a sense of how close we are to nature, how affected we can be by it’s presence and how nature is affected by our presence. Whether building gardens around a home, or softening city buildings with plantings, my aim is to create spaces that bring both people and the natural world together in a sustainable way.
After living in North Carolina for over thirty years I’ve come to know the landscape in all it’s nooks and crannies. Whether it’s a wide open meadow or a semi-shaded woodland edge.
Our homes can be a refuge from the outside world, a place we go to heal and a space to find inspiration for whatever it is we aspire to. My intention is to work with clients to build spaces that fulfill their needs while also working within nature’s boundaries.
